WINGATE- Jan 31, 1973 Hubert Irvin, 73, of Wingate, retired Montgomery County Farm Bureau employee and World War I veteran, died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in Home Hospital at Lafayette, where he had been a patient eight days. He lived all his life in this community. He was a 1917 graduate of Wingate High School and attended Wabash College. Mr Irvin served in France during the war. A member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ here, he also was a charter member of the Wingate American Legion post and member of Crawfordsville's WWI Barracks. After retirement from the Farm Bureau he was employed at Coal Creek Central School. A native of Fountain County, he was a son of Hugh and Clara Barton Irvin and was born April 23,1899. Mr Irvin was married in 1926 to Eva Grenard, who died in 1948. In 1950 he was wed to Florence Powers, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs Merry Christine Rice of Crawfordsville, Mrs Nancy Hoskins and Mrs Frances Beardsley of Wingate, and Mrs Barbara VanHook of RR1, Attica: two stepdaughters, Mrs Eralene Foster of Wingate and Mrs Sue Wildman of Veedersburg: a brother, Don Irvin of Wingate: a step-brother Grover Crowder of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Will and Ben, the latter dying last month at Darlington, and a sister, Bernice Gravett are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday. Revs. Homer Hunsinger and Clyde Hunter will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery north of Elmdale.  - typed by kbz
